For over twenty five years, Monmouth County's
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program
has been administered and monitored by the Community
Development Division which works with participating
communities and various non-profit agencies on
a variety of activities that benefit low and moderate
income households.
The county's yearly Community Development Block
Grant (CDBG) of almost $4,000,000 is used for
the county's Housing Improvement Program, Fair
Housing Board and Office, and Emergency Home Repair
Program as well as for non-profit and municipal
projects. Housing rehabilitation loans were made
through the Division's Housing Improvement Program.
These loans provided housing improvement assistance
to low and moderate income homeowners for structural,
roofing, heating, plumbing and electrical improvements.
The CDBG program rehabilitates homes under the
County Housing Improvement Program as well as
the Mount Laurel Home Repair Program which the
Housing Improvement Program administers for the
Townships of Freehold, Millstone and Wall, and
the Borough of Manasquan. The program also operates
the Rental Rehabilitation Program, designed
to assist landlords to improve rental properties
for low and moderate income tenants.
As an annual recipient of federal Community Development
Block Grant (CDBG) funds, Monmouth County is required
to affirmatively further fair housing. To comply
with this requirement, the Monmouth County Fair
Housing Board provides policy and guidance in
compliance with state and federal Fair Housing
laws to protect the rights of all Monmouth County
residents.
